A high flying pulp adventure anthology
Airship 27 Productions and Cornerstone take to the skies with the release of their reprint edition of LANCE STAR – SKY RANGER. This collection of new stories starring the long forgotten pulp hero was the first anthology title produced by Airship 27 Productions, dated 2006. Its overwhelming success helped launch the company’s ambitious plans to bring back classic pulp characters in brand new adventures. “Without LANCE STAR – SKY RANGER, there probably would have been no Airship 27 Productions,” claimed Editor Ron Fortier. “It was the book that got us going.” This anthology features four action packed tales of Lance and his loyal Sky Rangers. They include Attack of the Birdman by Frank Dirscherl, Where the Sea Meets the Sky by Bobby Nash, Shadows Over Kunlun by Win Scott Eckert, and Talons of the Red Condor by Bill Spangler with cover and interior art by comic pro, Rich Woodall of Johnny Raygun fame. The book also contains an article on the history of the character by Norman Hamilton and a second on airplane modeling in the 1930s and 40s by Larry Marshall. Included as an added bonus feature for this new edition is an excerpt from Bobby Nash’s full length novel, Lance Star: Sky Ranger “Cold Snap!” coming soon!
At the height of the pulps’ popularity, flying heroes like Dusty Ayers, G8 and His Battle Aces and Bill Barnes were among the biggest sellers on the market. Airship 27 Prod. is once again turning the spotlight on another such aviation daredevil, LANCE STAR – SKY RANGER!

THE ADVENTURES OF LANCE STAR - SKY RANGER LAUNCHES ON KINDLE!
You can find The Adventures of Lance Star - Sky Ranger here.
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:
THE ADVENTURES OF LANCE STAR – SKY RANGER
By Bobby Nash
Way back in 2005, Airship 27 Productions launched a new series of pulp adventures featuring aviation hero, Lance Star. One of the four writers recruited for that first volume was Bobby Nash, who quickly found himself completely enamored with the gutsy World War I veteran flyer. Enough so that in the subsequent three volumes that would follow, Bobby made sure to provide a new story for each.
“It was clear to us,” admits Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor Ron Fortier, “that Bobby had a special love for this character. Enough so that we transferred the copyrights to him. Soon thereafter Bobby wrote and had published the first ever Lance Star comic book.”
When Nash approached Fortier a few years ago about publishing the first ever full length Lance Star novel, both parties were immediately on board with the idea. That novel, tentatively titled – COLD SNAP, should be out sometime in 2017. To promote its arrival, Airship 27 Productions has collected all four of Bobby Nash’s previously published Lance Star tales in this Kindle Only Edition. Besides collecting those great pulp stories, this digital collection also includes the first chapter of Nash’s novel as a special bonus feature.
“We’re excited about Bobby’s plans for Lance Star,” concludes Fortier. “We hope this collection will spur renewed interest in this great high flying hero. Believe me, with a rising talent like Bobby Nash, the best is always yet to come.”

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS TEAMS UP WITH RADIO ARCHIVES FOR AUDIO PROJECTS
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE:
Airship 27 Productions, one of the best known of the New Pulp publishers today, is joining forces with Radio Archives, the leading voice in audiobooks to bring their action/adventure pulp titles to the exciting world of audiobooks.
“We couldn’t be happier about all this,” says Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor, Ron Fortier. “I love great storytelling in any media and have been a big fan of Radio Archives for several years now. How they bring books to life is simply fantastic and brings to mind memories of the golden days of radio.”
Airship 27 Productions was launched over ten years ago by Fortier, a veteran comic book and fantasy writer, along with his partner, professional graphic artist, Rob Davis, who serves as the company’s award winning Art Director. With over a hundred titles in their catalog, Airship 27 Productions is fueled by a stable of over fifty of the finest new pulp writers in the field and a cadre of over thirty amazing artists who provide the books’ interior illustrations and stunning covers for which they are recognized.
Initially begun to create new adventures of classic pulp heroes that had fallen into public domain, Airship 27 quickly expanded its subject matter allowing writers to whip up brand new heroes while at the same time delving into the popular worlds of such classic characters like Sherlock Holmes and Sinbad the Sailor.
“This new venture seems logical,” Fortier continues, “in the next evolutionary step for New Pulp. Radio Archives, under Tom Brown’s inspired leadership, has proven what they can do with classic pulp, now we’re all going to get to see them weave their unique magic on New Pulp. We couldn’t be more excited.”
Tom Brown of Radio Archives commented “We couldn’t be happier to work with Ron and Rob. You can see the passion they have in every book they publish. They are having a lot of fun.”
Tom further said “Audiobooks have been around for 40 years and are just becoming discovered in the last few years. With over a billion Smart Phones that can play audiobooks along with Amazon heavily promoting audiobooks combined with an average 53 minute
commute per day is causing the audiobook field to explode.”
Five years ago only 10% of books had an audiobook version and I believe that number will increase to 90% in the future. Customers now expect a successful publisher to offer an eBook and audiobook version along side their print books.”
As specific titles are chosen, both Radio Archives and Airship 27 Productions will continue to promote each as they become available via press releases and other media marketing tools.

LANCE STAR CROSSES OVER!!!
![]() |
| It starts here... |
Thanks to Sean for including these in the Crossover Universe Blog. I love it when I'm able to crossover characters and stories. I do it whenever I can. I’ll have to write up a nice blog post about it. I have several background characters that have appeared in books in multiple timelines so we’ve gotten to see them grow and age and see what they’ve been up to. Plus, Evil Ways' FBI Agent Harold Palmer has a connection to Lance Star: Sky Ranger and The New Adventures of The Eagle as his grandfather, a G-man, makes appearances in both.

LANCE STAR: SKY RANGER VOL. 4 AUTHOR/PUBLISHER Q& A ROUNDTABLE
And on with the questions...
What is it about characters like Lance Star and the Sky Rangers that draws you to writing/publishing (and reading) their adventures?
![]() |
| Andrew Salmon |
Jim Beard - For me, it's the thrill of flying, or the the kind of flying THEY do. I like flying on big ol' modern jets, but that bare-knuckle, seat-of-the-pants flying that Lance and his fellow airmen pull off is like science fiction to me...and that's what's so attractive about it. Plus, Lance can get into all kinds of WEIRD stuff, too, which is an extra-added bonus. What's not to love?
![]() |
| Jim Beard |
Ron Fortier – I’ve always been an aviation buff and especially loved any comic book or pulp that dealt with flying. As a kid I devoured BLACKHAWK from D.C. and their ENEMY ACE series. When I discovered the old pulp classics, I was immediately drawn to the likes of Bill Barnes, Dusty Ayers and G-8 & His Battle Aces. It’s no surprise when we started up our publishing house it was christened Airship 27
![]() |
| Bobby Nash |
What has your experience been like working on this book?
Andrew Salmon - My tale proved to be quite a challenge albeit a worthwhile one. The research was a ton of fun. Writing the tale wound up being more difficult than I thought it would be but, ultimately, I'm happy with the result. Getting Lance and crew into tight situations then trying to figure a way out for them was the order of the day as I cranked out the tale. I enjoyed the process of writing the tale and being associated with the other great contributors to the book. It's been a treat adding a chapter to Lance lore!
![]() |
| Ron Fortier |
Bobby Nash - Fun. For my story in this volume, I decided to do something a little bit different. My previous Sky Ranger tales have all been rooted in reality, albeit a pulpy one. This time out I decided to unleash the sci fi writer side of my brain and put Lance and the boys in a situation outside their usual comfort zone. Once I had the idea of a pterodactyl vs. an airplane there was no going back.
Ron Fortier – Both pure pleasure and sheer frustration. Pleasure as all the stories and art we assembled in this volume are simply fantastic. There’s not a bad story or poor illustration anywhere in this volume. Frustration, as ever, in how bloody long it took us to get it out. Sadly, when you are working with multiple creators, these things happen all the time and you are at the mercy of people’s schedules. When that last piece of art came in to complete the volume, I pretty much danced a jig. Of course, now comes the challenge of planning Vol 5. Ha.
Tell us a bit about your story in Lance Star: Sky Ranger Vol. 4.
Andrew Salmon - In "The Devil's Arm Gambit", Lance and the Sky Rangers
head to the desert to help out an old friend of Buck Tellonger's. The air service the guy is running has fallen on some rather sudden hard times. They soon learn that nothing is quite what it appears to be and, before you know it, they are in the middle of a dastardly threat that jeopardizes the country.
Jim Beard - "Black Cloud Ace" is all about choices, those important times in our lives when we're presented with a choice and whatever path we choose will shape our destiny. The story begins with Lance testing an experimental jet - based on the real-life prototypical jets of that time period - and a strange black cloud that looms large in his path. Once he goes through it, nothing will ever be quite the same for our hero ever again as he takes a cold hard look at himself and a particular choice he's made in the past.
Bobby Nash - “Ring of Fire” sees Lance Star and his Sky Rangers journey to an island inside the mysterious Ring of Fire, a circular series of volcanic islands in the South Pacific. They are there to deliver supplies and evacuate all non-essential personnel off the island, which they discover upon their arrival is actually a volcano in the stages of pre-eruption. Complicating matters are stubborn scientists, Nazi agents, and prehistoric beasts that should not exist. All in all, another day at the office for America’s Air Ace.
Tell us a bit about Lance Star: Sky Ranger Vol. 4.
Ron Fortier - Well, as is obvious, it continues the high flying adventures of aviation ace and genius inventor Lance Star, who owns his own airfield in New York and from there offers his services and those of his flight team to the government and private contractors. In this collection, Lance & Co. find a hidden Nazis military base in the South Pacific, battle prehistoric flying monsters and even uncover a plot to assassinate the President of the Unite States. All in a days work for Lance Star & his Sky Rangers.
Bobby Nash - Lance Star: Sky Ranger Volume 4 continues the grand pulp tradition that Ron and I, along with the rest of the Airship 27 crew, started way back with the first volume in this series. We’re telling fun stories that I hope will entertain and delight readers of all ages.
Where can readers learn more about you and your work?
Andrew Salmon - The best bet is my amazon page. As everything I've had published is available there for Kindle and in print, it really is the place to find out what I've been up these last few years:
Jim Beard - Folks can visit my Amazon Author Page (please leave me some reviews!) and say "hi" over at my Facebook page.
If they're really brave, they can check out my Sgt. Janus Spirit-Blog here.
Bobby Nash - The easiest place to keep up with me and information on my new and previously released work is at www.bobbynash.com. I’m also all over social media. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, my Amazon Author Page, and all over the web. I also run the official Lance star: Sky Ranger website, which you can find at www.lance-star.com.
Where can readers learn more about Airship 27 and available titles?
Ron Fortier - Although the majority of our books are available at Amazon, pulp fans should check out our on-line site to see ALL OUR TITLES. Here’s the link.
As ever we thank them for their support.
