THE WRAP UP-- BEWARE THE "AYE"- DES OF MARCH INDIE AUTHOR EVENT!

She's behind me,
isn't she?
The Life In The Faster Lane tour headed to Dahlonega, GA on Saturday, March 14th for the Beware the "Aye"- Des of March Indie Author Event! Authors on hand included Juliet Rose, D.Z. Hollow, James Palmer, Matt Nielsen, and Bobby Nash. Laurie Hyatt, who was doing a signing nearby, also popped in for a bit. The event ran from 11am - 7pm.

We sat up on the second floor covered porch in front of the Dahlonega Walking Tours entrance, who hosted the event along with Juliet and Justin. There was a ghost tour and also a wine tasting later in the day. I had a great day. We got off to a slow start, but it was nice having time to chat before things started picking up. We met some wonderful people, sold some books, and gave away some art and free coffee.

The biggest surprise came when a couple came by who were celebrating the
Excited fans.
thirty-first wedding anniversary and were traveling. From Arkansas, they came through New Orleans to Tybee Island, GA and finally to Dahlonega, GA. All on a lark. They stumbled on us by accident. Side note, I might have some books in their store soon.

Evil Ways was the big seller of the day. It's been a while since I could announce that.

A fun time was had. I believe that there are more events like this scheduled for the same space. I hope to be back to do it again.

I also tried out a new table set up. I like this one, but it still needs a little work.

KEEP SHOVELING...

I saw this quote attributed to Jordan Peele today. I think this perfectly sums up writing my first drafts.

"When I’m writing the first draft, I’m constantly reminding myself that I’m simply shoveling sand into a box so that later I can build castles."

Keep shoveling.

Good advice.

How Do You Find The Time To Write?

A question I've been getting a lot lately is "How do you find time to write?" The truth is, you don't. You have to make time to write. If you wait for free time, you'll never find it. Trust me on this.

This answer is usually followed by, "But I have a job or I have a family." I wrote most of my first novel in a little less than 30 minutes a day on my lunch break at my day job. I sat in my car with a bag lunch and wrote. First, in notebooks. Then, when I got a laptop, I used that. later, a tablet turned out to be perfect for writing on my lunch break. It's doable.

Some writers I know wake up an hour earlier than normal to write for an hour before leaving for work or turn off the TV early and write before bed. You make the most out of time. Writing for 30 minutes a day took time, but I eventually got there.

Good luck.

THE WRAP UP-- FINISHED GOODS SUNDAY MARKET 3/8!

Thanks to all who joined me at Finished Goods Sunday Market today at Finished Goods Brew Werks in Winder, GA. Not a huge turnout, but I met some wonderful people and sold some books & art. Bonus: it's 5 minutes from my house. Thanks, as always, to Maggie at Tall Pine Events for hosting. It was a fun day. check out some photos below.

I'm doing some redesign tests on my table set up. This was today's. Not bad. I'll be trying another set up at my event in Dahlonega Saturday. I don't often have side table space so that will play into the layout as well.

I was asked what you do when a show is slow. I spent some time talking with the other vendors, many of whom I met for the first time today. I also take my tablet with me and write when things are slow. I added about a thousand words to the next Tom Myers Mystery today. I also drew up some designs for table redesigns. It was a productive day.
