WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS...

I was asked on Twitter what my writing space looks like so here ya go. My office is dire need of reorganization. I'm almost embarrassed to show it off. I need to take a day and get it back in order.

TALKING PULPS AT DRAGON CON!

I had a wonderful time talking all things #pulp for a Virtual Dragon Con panel today. Look for it to go live around Labor Day Weekend. Sean Taylor, Mike Bullock, Teel James Glenn, and I joined host Van Allen Plexico for a wonderful look at the pulps both then, now, and what the future might hold for these pulpy characters. Coming soon. I'll let you know when it's live.

Bobby

FYI: Sean, Van, and Bobby have all written Lance Star: Sky Ranger stories.

We have a great show for you. We are going to be looking at that posh word in our culture these days, HYBRID. How does that affect the choices we make when it comes to who will put out our writing? CL Cannon will be along with The Indie Connection that will slay you, and you will get a sneak peek at a brand new episode of GENRES that will be premiering later today about Alternate History.

-----

The PulpFest Organizing Committee is pleased to announce that eleven individuals and one organization have been nominated by their peers for the 2021 Munsey Award. This annual award is named after Frank A. Munsey — the man who published the first pulp magazine. It recognizes an individual or organization that has bettered the pulp community, be it through disseminating knowledge about the pulps or through publishing or other efforts to preserve and foster interest in the pulp magazines we all love and enjoy. Congratulations to all of the nominees for this prestigious award presented annually at PulpFest.

The nominees listed below — who received multiple nominations — will be forwarded to a committee made up of all the living Lamont, Munsey, and Rusty Award winners who will select the recipient of this year’s Munsey Award.

The recipient of the 2021 Munsey Award will be announced on Friday, August 20, as part of our evening programming, open to all members of PulpFest 2021 as well as the general public. The award will be presented by William Lampkin, the winner of our 2018 Munsey Award.

If you’d like to nominate a person or organization for our 2022 Munsey Award, you can learn how to do so by clicking here.

WRITERLY INTRODUCTION BY FACTS PRESENTS AUTHOR BOBBY NASH!

I was asked some writing-related questions over on Instagram. Thought I would share them here. You can follow me on Instagram at www.instagram.com/BobbyNashWrites

Repost from @ michelleraabwrites on Instagram who Reposted from @meganriannwrites using @RepostRegramApp - I’m joining in on the #writerlyintrobyfacts tag!

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚: I have been fortunate to write multiple genres, but I always come back to thrillers. I like mixing thrillers with action, mystery, crime, adventure. Fun stuff.

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙: I read thrillers, sci-fi, comics, media tie-ins, and pretty much anything that grabs my attention. If I fall in love with a character, I’ll be back for the entire series.

𝙁𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨: Harry Bosch, Maggie O’Dell, Alex Cross, Dianne Fallon, Domino Lady, Thor, Captain America, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Shane Scully, the list could go on and on…

𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙢𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨: I like my stories to move. Character is key so I get to know them first. Dropping my characters into an action/thriller plot and seeing how they get out of it is my favorite thing.

𝙃𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜?: Sometimes. Yeah. Not always though.

𝙋𝙡𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨𝙚𝙧: I’m somewhere in the middle. I have a very loose plot. I know certain things that have to happen, but I let the characters determine how we get there. This allows for some interesting character developments and even a few twists and surprises. I can’t stand the word “Plantser” so I joke that they call me Captain Plotty-Pants!

𝙋𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙜𝙤𝙖𝙡𝙨: I’m a hybrid author. I write for publishers and also have my own indie press, BEN Books. I am working to make BEN Books grow, but I still enjoy working with publishers as well, especially when writing characters I don’t own. One of my long-term goals is that I would like to see the words “New York Times Bestselling Author” appear before my name.

𝙁𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙨: That could be a long list. I’ll keep it short. Michael Connelly, Alex Kava, Gary Phillips, Van Allen Plexico, Beverly Connor, Michael Crichton, Ed Brubaker, Paul Bishop, and more. Many more.

𝙒𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮: Writer like the wind.

𝙒𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙨: I’m a simple guy. I write in MS Word on my laptop.
